A man killed a co-worker in what appears to have been an accidental shooting at a Pittsburg convenience store on New Year’s Eve, Lt. Brian Addington said today.Police received a call at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday reporting that a man had been shot in the face at the Golden Star Market at 44 W. 10th St.When they arrived, officers found 25-year-old Oakley resident Ehab Ahmed dead from a single gunshot wound.Police believe that Ahmed had been showing a co-worker his gun in a backroom of the store when the co-worker, a 21-year-old Pittsburg man, accidentally shot him, Addington said.Ahmed had taken the magazine out of the gun and turned it around to hand to the co-worker. As the co-worker was adjusting the grip in his hand, he accidentally pulled the trigger, firing a bullet that had been left in the chamber, Addington said.Ahmed’s two brothers were in the store with him, along with two customers and one other employee when the shooting happened, Addington said. Ahmed’s father owns the store. The co-worker has been cooperating with police and is distraught over what happened, Addington said. Police plan to present the case to the district attorney’s office, but Addington said it is unlikely that prosecutors will file charges against the co-worker.No alcohol or drugs were involved and the case “looks like it’s just a tragic accident,” Addington said.
