* Leopold Vargas Allegedly Stabbed in Back in Moss Landing by Victor Alfonso, Edgar Salazar and Jonathan Herrera

A man was stabbed twice in the back on New Year’s Day in the historic fishing village of Moss Landing, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. At about 12:01 a.m., deputies responded to a fight at 1900 state Highway 1. They discovered that the three suspects, Victor Alfonso, Edgar Salazar and Jonathan Herrera, were at a friend’s home there.  The suspects allegedly surrounded and punched the victim, who lived in the neighborhood. Alfonso also allegedly stabbed the victim, Leopold Vargas, two times in the back, sheriff’s deputies said. Vargas allegedly identified the three men. All three suspects were booked into the Monterey County Jail.
