* Alleged Norteno Gang Member Rogelio Garcia Allegedly Shoots James Santoyo in Castroville

A Norteño gang member was arrested Friday night after attempting to shoot two Castroville residents as they were entering a family member’s apartment, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Rogelio Garcia, 19, allegedly shot at James Santoyo at 10:17 p.m. while Santoyo was ascending the stairs to an apartment occupied by his relatives. The apartment was located near Jackson and Wood streets in Castroville. Garcia is a documented and self-identified Norteno gang member, according to the sheriff’s office. Nobody was injured in the shooting.
