A man was arrested in Santa Cruz today on suspicion of killing a woman and her 13-week-old daughter in Seattle last week, authorities announced.Daniel Thomas Hicks, 29, is suspected of fatally shooting a 28-year-old woman and her young daughter Tuesday morning in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, according to Seattle police. Hicks was identified by Seattle police as a person of interest early in the investigation and later named a suspect.Santa Cruz police said investigators located Hicks using a tip obtained in a phone trace and arrested him this morning in the 100 block of Encinal Street. Officers cordoned off the street and told nearby businesses to shelter in place as they contacted Hicks, who was considered to be armed and dangerous.Hicks allegedly said he knew why he was being arrested and referred to himself as a “bad person,” Santa Cruz police said.Santa Cruz police also conducted an extensive search for Hicks’ 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck, which was found in Weed and impounded, police said. Santa Cruz police Capt. Steve Clark said in a news release, “The Santa Cruz Police Department is committed to assisting the Seattle community and their Police Department with any resource necessary to investigate this horrific and tragic crime.”Hicks will be held at the Santa Cruz Police Department until Seattle police detectives arrive in the city.
