Three teens have been arrested for stealing bicycles from a group of 14-year-old boys in San Mateo and then attacking one of the victims when he tried to chase after the suspects, police said today. The three victims were eating pizza in Gateway Park at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when the suspects, ages 15 and 16, walked up to them and tried to sell them marijuana, according to police. The victims declined the offer and the suspects left, but a few minutes later ran up to the victims again and stole two of their bicycles, police said. One victim chased after the suspects, and a suspect then tackled him, pinned him to the ground and forcibly took his cell phone, police said. The victims reported the incident to a parent at about 6 p.m. that day, who then called police. The suspects were identified and taken into custody without incident in the 200 block of North Grant Street, police said. Authorities then served a search warrant and recovered the bicycles and stolen phone from one of the suspects’ homes, police said. The teenage suspects were booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy and possession of stolen property.
