Published by on December 21, 2009

A few homes in San Jose were briefly evacuated this afternoon after a grenade believed to be from the World War II era was found in a home, a police officer said. At 4:21 p.m., police received a call from a home in the 6700 block of Bollinger Road, where someone cleaning the residence had found the grenade, police Officer Jermaine Thomas said. The Police Department’s bomb squad responded to the home and safely removed the grenade, Thomas said. During the incident, authorities evacuated everybody from the home where the device was found, as well as all adjacent homes, he said. Thomas did not know if the grenade was live when it was removed, but he said the device was safely disposed of at the Police Department’s bombing range.
