* Walter Hughes Arrested for Alleged Fatal Shooting in San Jose

San Jose police arrested a 21-year-old San Jose man after witnessing the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man early this morning. Walter Hughes was arrested in connection with the shooting, which occurred at 1:29 a.m. near the intersection of Second and Santa Clara streets, according to police. During an altercation, police officers observed Hughes brandish a
gun and shoot the victim, police said. Officers chased the suspect and arrested him while two off-duty medical professionals tended to the victim, according to police. The victim, a San Jose resident, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The shooting marks San Jose’s 26th homicide in 2009.
