Acting on a tip, Mexican police officers tried to arrest drug cartel leaders at a house in Nogales, Mexico on the border with Nogales, Arizona. The gang members began shooting at the police causing a major shootout. Over 14,000 rounds were fired by over 400 Federal, state, local, municipal police officers backed up by the army in 3 hour gun battle with the drug cartel gunmen. One police officer and one cartel gunman were killed. The police and army recovered heavy and light machine guns, hand grenades and thousands of rounds of ammunition the cartel hideout.
