San Pablo police tonight are searching for a young man who shot and robbed a 51-year-old woman on an Alameda Contra Costa Transit bus this afternoon. The shooting was reported at 1:39 p.m. on the 72-line on San Pablo Avenue near Laurie Lane, AC Transit spokesman Clarence Johnson said. The suspect, believed to be about 19 years old, approached the victim, revealed a handgun and demanded her wallet, police said. After he took the wallet, the victim jumped on his back in an effort to recover her property. The suspect then shot her in the stomach, police said. Following the shooting, the suspect ran onto San Pablo Avenue and detectives in the area saw him run into an apartment complex in the 14100 block of the street. Officers searched the building, but did not locate the suspect, police said. However, investigators found the victim’s wallet and the suspect’s jacket a short distance from the apartment building. During the investigation, officers detained one man for questioning, but he was released after it was determined he was not the suspect, police said. The suspect is described as a black man who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a red striped T-shirt underneath. Police did not release the condition of the victim. Johnson said there was a camera on the bus, but that it was broken.
