* Mexican Marines Land on Beach in Mazatlán to Battle Drug Cartel

Mexican Marines and Sailors land on beach from Navy assault ship in Matzatlan to backup federal police. A 6 hour gun battle ensues with members of the Gulf Cartel attacking the Marines and police with automatic weapons and hand grenades. During the battle, Drug Cartel gunmen captured a police officer and tried to escape into the jungle with him. The Marines surrounded hills and were able to rescue the officer and arrest 8 gunmen. Police suspect 2 gunmen may have escaped into the jungle but it has not been confirmed. The government forces also uncovered a large illegal arsenal automatic weapons, hand grenades and ammunition. Two police officers and one marine were wounded in the gun fight.
