Concord police are investigating a robbery and an attempted robbery that happened early Wednesday morning within about a mile of each other, Cpl. James Carroll said. The first incident happened at 12:34 a.m. The victim was walking near Clayton Road and Fifth Street when four men approached him. One of the suspects punched him in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground. The suspects then punched him in the upper and lower torso and tried to pull a duffle bag from him, tearing the strap, Carroll said. The men then fled on foot toward downtown Concord without taking the duffle bag. Less than half hour later, at 12:59 a.m., four men in a silver four-door Honda pulled up near a woman who was walking on Pine Street near Clayton Road. Two of the men got out of the car, pushed the woman to the ground and grabbed her purse. They then got back in the car and fled toward Clayton Road. Neither of the victims appeared to have been seriously injured in the attacks and police were still investigating today whether the same four men could have been involved in both incidents.
