A 40-year-old Alameda real estate agent found slain inside his home on Dec. 2 had been arrested in July on suspicion of child molestation, police said today. Police found Darin Gregory Vinall shot once in the upper torso inside the bedroom of his home in the 100 block of Parfait Lane just before 9 p.m., Alameda police Lt. Bill Scott said. There were no signs of a break-in and no gun was found in the home.Police have ruled the case a homicide.Scott said a female relative of Vinall became concerned after not hearing from him for a few days. She called police on Dec. 2 after finding a stack of newspapers outside his home, which she told police was unusual because Vinall was an avid newspaper reader. Vinall worked both out of his real estate office and his home, Scott said.Alameda police arrested Vinall on July 21 on suspicion of committing lewd and lascivious acts on a child, Scott said.Scott said police do not know whether Vinall’s homicide was related to his pending case.He had been scheduled to appear in court on his case on Dec. 3, according to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors declined today to discuss Vinall’s relationship to the alleged victim. No arrests have been made in connection with Vinall’s killing.”We have recovered some evidence … and we have a whole lotta leads … but no specific suspects at this time,” Scott said.
