A Pittsburg man was arrested Saturday night after he shot the driver of the car he was riding in, causing the vehicle to crash on the highway when there were two young children in the back, Antioch police said. At about 5 p.m. Saturday, 30-year-old Pittsburg residents Manuel and Rogelio Lopez got in an argument while traveling westbound on state Highway 4 near Somerville Road, according to police.Rogelio Lopez was driving, police said, and there were two kids, ages 7 and 8, riding in the back. The two men began arguing and started physically fighting, police said.Manuel Lopez then drew a handgun and shot Rogelio Lopez, police said. The shooting caused the vehicle to crash into an embankment on the north side of the highway near Somerville Road. The shooter tried to flee the scene but was intercepted by police. He was also shot during the incident, but police believe the injury was accidental and self-inflicted. Both men were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released for their gunshot wounds. Manuel Lopez was then booked into county jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment, police said. The kids were not injured and were put in the custody of children and family services.
