A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed by police following a carjacking in San Pablo and pursuit that spanned into Richmond on Saturday night, a police lieutenant said today.The carjacking occurred at about 6:15 p.m. in the area of 23rd Street and Dover Avenue in San Pablo, Richmond police Lt. Manjit Sappal said. The three suspects, including the 16-year-old boy, were allegedly armed when they stole a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and drove into Richmond, according to Sappal.San Pablo police broadcast a countywide alert and Richmond police responded to assist, Sappal said.Just before 6:30 p.m., the suspects crashed the Monte Carlo into a parked car in the 2600 block of Willart Drive in Richmond and ran from the scene, according to Sappal.Officers chased the 16-year-old boy on foot into a field in the area of Willart Drive and Parker Road where they “confronted the suspect,” which resulted in at least one San Pablo police officer firing at the boy, Sappal said. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Sappal said he didn’t know if the boy was armed.Authorities searched the neighborhood for the other two suspects, who are males believed to be between 17 and 20 years old, but called off the search at about 10:30 p.m.Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said this morning that the other two suspects have not been found.The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, she said.
