On October 26, 2009, at approximately 3:29 A.M., Oakland Police officers were dispatched to Golf Links Rd near Glenly Rd on a report of a male and female asking for help. Responding officers discovered the two were passengers in a 1996 Plymouth Neon 4 door blue which had earlier fled from pursuing Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies. The Plymouth was traveling westbound on Golf Links Rd at an unsafe speed when the driver failed to negotiate the curve at Glenly Rd, left the roadway and collided with a tree.
The driver of the Plymouth, identified as Francisco Leobardo Lara, a 33-year-old Oakland resident, was trapped inside of the vehicle. Lara suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Highland hospital in critical condition. Lara was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. Lara was also found to be a parolee-at-large with active warrants for his arrest. The female passenger was identified as Mayra Rivera, an 18 year old Oakland resident. The name of the male passenger, a 16 year old Oakland resident, is being withheld because he is a juvenile. Both suffered major injuries and were transported to Highland hospital in stable condition. It does not appear at this time that alcohol was a factor in the collision. This incident is still under investigation.  Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit at 867-7111.
