Two inmates in Contra Costa County jails died Saturday in unrelated incidents, a sheriff’s spokesman said today. On Saturday, a 45-year-old man being held on an arrest warrant for failure to appear was found dead at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond, sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said. A nurse was making her rounds at about 8:15 a.m. when she noticed Richard William New unconscious in his cell, according to Lee.  Medical staff and the Richmond Fire Department responded and attempted life-saving measures, but New was pronounced dead at 8:48 a.m., Lee said.  In a separate incident, a 44-year-old man being hospitalized while incarcerated at the Martinez Detention Facility appeared to have a seizure at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lee. Maurice Moyal, who had been in custody on a robbery charge since May 2008, was taken by ambulance to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez where he was pronounced dead at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Lee said.
