* Scott Hawkins Sacramento University Student Found Dead His Room Mate Quran Jones Arrested

A California State University at Sacramento student murdered in his dorm room Wednesday has been identified as 23-year-old Scott Hawkins, of Santa Clara, a police sergeant said today.University police received a call from a resident adviser at the American River Courtyard dormitory shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday reporting a “major disturbance” in the building, university police Sgt. Joe Green said. When the authorities entered the room, they found Hawkins lying unconscious on the ground in a pool of blood and one of his four roommates, 19-year-old Quran Jones, holding a knife, Green said. The officers told Jones to drop the knife but he refused, and the officers deployed a pepper-ball gun to no effect, according to Green.Jones then allegedly waved the knife “in a threatening manner” and “charged” at the officers, Green said. Two officers shot Jones. Jones and Hawkins were both transported to a hospital where Hawkins was pronounced dead.Jones remained hospitalized at the University of California at Davis Medical Center today and is expected to survive, Green said. He is in police custody on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. Investigators are working to determine a motive for the incident. Green said the other three roommates were not home at the time and that the murder is believed to be “an isolated incident.”He said the last murder on the university campus was in 1998.”It’s not a common occurrence here, obviously,” Green said.He said that despite the shock, “The student body is doing pretty well.” Counselors have been made available 24 hours a day for students and staff.

  • @Bluto:
Sir, you are grossly misinformed. I would see why you would assume that Quran is Muslim based purely on his name but in fact he is a practicing Christian. I grew up with him and of course it’s sad to see his life turn in this direction. He has lived a tough life and you know nothing of his situation. For future reference, please keep ignorant statements to yourself and get your facts straight before trying to sound like a hot shot.

  • Sympathies to Scott’s family and friends.

Impossible to say what set Quran Mahammed Jones off.
A “strait-laced”, “religious” Muslim man rooming with a student of middle-eastern studies. (Did anybody smell trouble brewing?) And how do we handle ideological disagreements with the infidel, class?
The only thing missing from this story is whether or not QMJ was screaming “Allahu Akbar” as he beat his roommate to death with a baseball bat.

  • Quran Jones, eh? Big surprise there. No hate crime though. He probably had a bad childhood too. How long before Sharpton, Inc. run to his defense?

  • My heart goes out to both families. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. To the Hawkin’s family….no words can express the sadness that I feel for you and for Scott. From what I’ve read, he sounds like a kid who despite his disability, he was doing something for himself…and he truely did not deserve to die this way. May God be with you.

  • My heart goes out to Scott Hawkins family. I am so sorry I wish there was something I could do for the family but I can only pray.

  • Quran never did any drugs nor did he even drink despite the fact it was around him when we hung out. He was extremely straight laced and a bit religious. He was a hard worker and overall nice guy. I spent a lot of time with Quran, talked to him about some deep stuff and he never came off as violent, or even the type to hide his true feelings. He was a minor perfectionist and really just wanted to be the best person he could be. In many cases I could see he became depressed when he felt he wasn’t living up to his potential. This always lead him to work harder in whatever he was doing. It just doesn’t make any sense that he would do something like this. Of all the people I know he would be the last one I suspected of really hurting someone.

  • Quran Jones was an incredibly nice kid.. I have hung out with this kid many times for years in SF where he is from. I can not believe that he would do something like this because he was always seemed so shy and innocent. I believe that something really bad happened to create such a huge fight between these two people. This type of act was not one expected from Quran.. I am sadden to read this with the knowledge he will most likely face life in prison for his actions. I wish I could have prevented this in someway.. now two lives are destroyed.. so sad..
