* Frank Alvarez, 19 Arrested For San Jose Street Race Where Luan Le, 23 Died In Crash

San Jose police have arrested a driver involved in a Thursday afternoon car race that led to the death of a San Jose man driving another vehicle that crashed into a tree.Frank Alvarez, 19, of San Jose, faces charges for participating in a speed contest, according to police.Police said Alvarez and Luan Le, 23, were racing down a hill west on Silver Creek Valley Road, east of Hellyer Avenue at about 12:15 p.m. when Le lost control of his car. His white 1988 Honda Civic hatchback struck a tree and Le was ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.San Jose police Officer Ronnie Lopez said Le was racing Alvarez, who was driving a green two-door 2000 Acura, down a hill. Alvarez was not involved in the accident, and stopped his car immediately upon seeing the crash, according to Lopez. He was booked into Santa Clara County main jail.
