A Milpitas man was sentenced in federal court in San Jose Wednesday to 18 years in prison for three armed robberies at a Bank of America in Santa Clara in 2003, 2004 and 2005.Froilan Roldan, 30, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel to pay the bank branch at 2925 Scott Blvd. $90,594 in restitution and to serve a five-year period of supervised release following his release from prison.Roldan pleaded guilty before Fogel in July to three counts of armed bank robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of
violence.U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello said Roldan admitted to robbing the Santa Clara bank three times, to using a firearm during one of those robberies and to stealing more than $90,000.”His bank robbery spree, even if he got to keep the proceeds, which he won’t,” Russoniello said, referring to Roldan’s prison sentence in a prepared statement, “would be the equivalent of working for $2 an hour.””If ‘crime pays’ at all, his case demonstrates it doesn’t pay very well.”
