Santa Rosa police on Sunday arrested a man in Ventura County who is suspected of raping a 75-year-old female acquaintance in her Santa Rosa home earlier this month.Audelio Martinez, 35, of Santa Rosa, was arrested in the Santa Paula area of Ventura County, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.He is being held in Ventura County jail in lieu of $1 million bail until he is transferred back to Sonoma County by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, Banayat said.Martinez was also booked into the Ventura County jail on an unrelated arrest warrant for assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats in Santa Rosa in March 2008, Banayat said. Details about that incident were not immediately available.Martinez allegedly went to the elderly woman’s home in the 300 block of West Third Street at about 11 a.m. on Sept. 17, police said.The woman let him into the house and Martinez allegedly sexually assaulted her, Banayat said. He did not use a weapon. The victim’s daughter reported the rape to police the next day and police obtained an arrest warrant on Sept. 23, Banayat said.On Saturday,detectives learned that Martinez has acquaintances in the Santa Paula area and they traveled to Ventura County where they worked with Santa Paula police to set up surveillance of a home there, Banayat said.On Sunday police obtained a warrant to search the home and found Martinez hiding in a bathroom.He was arrested without incident on suspicion of rape with force, kidnapping to commit rape, burglary and elder abuse, Banayat said. The case is still under investigation, Banayat said.
