Police arrested a 30-year-old Antioch man Tuesday night after he was allegedly caught driving a stolen vehicle and then attempted to assault a woman who grabbed onto him as he fled, police said Wednesday.At about 8:30 p.m. an officer saw a man, later identified as Steven Clark, park and walk away from a Honda in the area of G and 16th streets.When Clark saw the officer, he quickly got back in the vehicle and sped away, police said.The officer ran the license plate and found that the car had been reported stolen out of Pittsburg on Monday. As officers began searching the area, they received a report of a vehicle crash at the corner of Newbury Drive and G Street. Responding officers found that the same stolen vehicle had been involved in the crash, police said.As Clark fled through peoples’ backyards, a woman tried to grab onto him and he allegedly swung a large pipe at her, but missed.The woman grabbed onto the pipe and the bag as Clark continued to flee, police said. Officers searched backyards and found him hiding in a neighbor’s backyard where a police dog apprehended him, police said.Clark was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of burglary tools, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, hit and run, probation violation and an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, police said.
