Community leaders, police and family members of two people who were murdered recently in Richmond gathered today to ask for the public’s help in finding the people responsible for the killings. Derrick Rogers, 33, of San Pablo, was gunned down Friday night in front of 4517 Cypress Ave. in Richmond. Rogers’ death came a week after his cousin, 19-year-old Hercules resident Kaneesha Mallard, was shot to death at a 76 gas station at the corner of Carlson Boulevard and Imperial Avenue on Sept. 11. Alfred Thomas, 20, of Vallejo, was also killed in that shooting. The Rev. Andre Shumake, president of the Richmond Improvement Association, said at a news conference this morning that the families are trying to send a message to the community to stop retaliatory violence. The news conference was held at the gas station where Mallard was killed.Richmond Police Chief Chris Magnus said police are putting all of their resources into solving homicides in the city.”The Police Department is doing everything it can to bring these people to justice,” Magnus said. “We are not going to rest until they are brought to justice.”Magnus said they are aggressively following leads in the two cases but have not made any arrests. Rogers’ father and two of Mallard’s sisters pleaded for anyone with information about who killed their loved ones to come forward. “If there’s anybody out there who knows anything, please call,” said Kizzy Hamilton, Mallard’s oldest sister.
