Three people that prosecutors said were responsible for some of the numerous takeover robberies at Oakland restaurants, bars and other shops last summer were sentenced today in Alameda County Superior Court. The robberies created widespread fear and concern among both store owners and patrons in Oakland at the time. Two men, Leon Luster, 24, and Rashaan Lamonthe, 31, were given prison sentences of 19 years and four months, and seven years, respectively, after pleading guilty to robbery charges in June, Alameda County Deputy District Attorney Jimmie Wilson said today.Luster admitted to robberies on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland and in Castro Valley, and Lamonthe to the robbery of an Oakland nail salon, according to Wilson. Luster’s girlfriend, Shante Bostic, 21, reportedly scoped out the group’s robbery targets before the two men entered, according to Wilson. She pleaded guilty to one robbery count and received a year in jail.Wilson said the robberies committed by the three “seemed to be small-time” and may have been copycats of other robberies at the same time.He said the three, who are believed to be Oakland residents, “weren’t very sophisticated,” wearing masks and using the same car in each of the robberies. Two other men are awaiting sentencing in Alameda County Superior Court for similar robberies last summer, according to Wilson.
