A 16-year-old student at Deer Valley High School in Antioch who was shot near the campus Wednesday morning is expected to survive, a police lieutenant said today.The boy was shot by someone inside a car as he was walking near the school around 8:30 a.m. at Sagebrush Drive near Prewitt Ranch Road, Antioch police Lt. Leonard Orman said.He said the teen, who was walking with a group, heard loud music coming from the car, described as a gold or tan sedan.The teen and the people in the car “exchanged words” before someone in the car fired a gun, Orman said.The bullet entered the boy’s arm and traveled into his upper torso. He was airlifted to a hospital and underwent surgery Wednesday.Orman said detectives have been working around the clock to learn more about the shooting and plan to obtain more information from the victim when he is further along in his recovery.”We have interviewed several people of interest,” Orman said, adding that while no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, during the investigation police made an unrelated arrest of a man for having an assault weapon.”We don’t believe he’s related this case,” Orman said. “He was not at the shooting.”All schools in the district were locked down until about 10:20 a.m.Wednesday, according to the school district. Classes are in session today.The car involved is described as a gold or tan Lexus, Chevrolet Impala or Saturn, and is believed to be an early 2000 model. The four-door car has tinted windows and oversize rims and tires. Police said the vehicle was traveling near the rear of the school prior to the incident, and were able to obtain a photo from a video recording at the school.Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt.
