* Timothy Rodriguez A State Correctional Officer Charged With Attempted Murder

Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo on Tuesday announced that a Salinas Valley correctional officer has been charged with premeditated attempted murder.Timothy Rodriguez, 38, was arrested in Salinas on Sept. 9 after an undercover investigation revealed he allegedly solicited murder for hire from an undercover police officer posing as a hit man, according to the district attorney’s office.Rodriguez was charged with attempted premeditated murder, solicitation of murder and possession of a silencer in a complaint filed by the district attorney’s office on Friday.The Salinas Valley State Prison correctional officer is being held on $2 million bail and faces a maximum life sentence if convicted.Internal affairs agents for the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation investigated the case,according to the district attorney’s office.Rodriguez is scheduled for further arraignment on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Copyright © 2009 by Bay City News, Inc. — Republication, Rebroadcast or any other Reuse without the express written consent of Bay City News, Inc. is prohibited.
