The California Highway Patrol today is searching for possible witnesses to a fatal collision along U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Rosa late Friday night. At about 11:30 p.m., the CHP received calls reporting a body on a northbound shoulder of Highway 101 just south of an off-ramp at Corby Avenue, CHP Sgt. John Carman said. Occupants of three vehicles had noticed the body and pulled over to report it, but none had seen or been involved in a collision that might have killed the victim, CHP Sgt. Kevin Mensior said. Investigators were not able to determine if the victim had been ejected from a vehicle or possibly struck while walking near the highway, Mensior said. The victim sustained fatal injuries that were consistent with a collision having taken place, but no such conclusion could be made this morning, Mensior said. The Sonoma County coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy. Anyone with information regarding the fatality on Highway 101 in Santa Rosa on Friday night is asked to contact the CHP in Santa Rosa at (707) 588-1400.
