A Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputy shot an alleged assault suspect in San Jose this afternoon, San Jose police said. Two deputies were attempting to serve arrest warrants at this location. The deputies made contact with a suspect who refused to comply with their verbal orders and became hostile and combative towards the deputies. The deputies used O.C spray in an attempt to control the suspect. The suspect then pulled out a knife with which he threatened the deputies. One deputy discharged their firearm striking the suspect. The suspect was injured and transported to a local hospital. No deputies or officers were injured. San Jose police responded to a request by the sheriff’s office for emergency assistance in the 400 block of Chilberg Court, police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said. Arriving officers were told that a deputy had shot an assault suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, Lopez said. The suspects’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, and sheriff’s detectives are still investigating how the shooting happened, he said. The San Jose Police Department will also be investigating the case, Lopez said.
