The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is reporting an increase in robberies in the Marin City area.There have been 11 robberies in the past 90 days, most of which occurred when it was dark. Four of them were strong-armed robberies and seven involved the use of a gun or a simulated weapon, officials said.The robbers have targeted five people who were traveling along the U.S. Highway 101 underpass at Bridge Boulevard and Bridgeway from the Marin City area to Sausalito, the sheriff’s office said. The victims lost their wallets, cash and cell phones and some were physically assaulted even after they surrendered their property, the sheriff’s office said.In the most recent robbery, which was on Sunday, two juveniles stole a victim’s iPod and cell phone at gunpoint, the sheriff’s office said.The sheriff’s office has arrested five adults and a juvenile, but robberies are reportedly still taking place.Two deputies have been assigned to a walking beat in the area and the sheriff’s office is advising pedestrians to be more aware of their surroundings and to be watchful of individuals or groups who begin to follow them.
