A Rohnert Park woman was charged with vehicular manslaughter in Sonoma County Superior Court this morning in connection with a crash that killed a 5-year-old boy in April. Brandi Hanley, 32, delayed entering a plea and will return to court Sept. 28. Hanley was driving a Ford Explorer east on Guerneville Road at about 5:30 p.m. on April 28 when she struck a Toyota Matrix and a Toyota Celica from behind. The cars were stopped for a red light at the intersection of Guerneville and Marlow roads in west Santa Rosa. The impact pushed the Matrix into a utility pole. Addison Branson, 5, of Santa Rosa, who was sitting in the back seat of the Matrix, suffered fatal injuries and pronounced dead at about 6 p.m. Two other occupants of the Matrix, the boy’s father and a female passenger, were injured, as was the driver of the Celica. Hanley was treated at a local hospital for her injuries and was
released. She was later arrested. Alcohol was not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
