* $5 Million Bail Set For Novato Man James Mitchell Accussed Of Beating His Girlfriend Danielle Keller To Death

Marin County Superior Court Judge Kelly Simmons set bail at $5 million Monday for James Raphael Mitchell, the Pittsburg man accused of murdering his estranged girlfriend in Novato in July.Mitchell, 29, was still in Marin County jail this morning, a jail spokesman said. He was being held without bail prior to the judge’s decision Monday. Mitchell is charged with fatally beating 29-year-old Danielle Keller at the Diablo Court home in Novato that she shared with her mother on July 12 and then taking the couple’s 1-year-old daughter Samantha.Mitchell was arrested in Citrus Heights several hours later. Police recovered the girl, who was unharmed. His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 5.Mitchell is the son of the late porn filmmaker and San Francisco theater owner Jim Mitchell and the nephew of Artie Mitchell, who was killed by Jim Mitchell in Corte Madera in 1991.
