A jury in Florida convicted Michael King of kidnapping Denise Amber Lee from her home, sexually assaulting her and then killing her. Denise was able to call the police on a cell phone while she was being driving across 3 counties. She can be heard on the 911 recording frantically talking to the 911 operators and pleading to King be let go.
A passing motorist Jane Kowalski saw Denise banging on King’s car window and called police but because of a shift change mix up, officers responding on Amber’s call for help were not informed about the passing motorist call. Officers were unable to find the car until after Denise had been murdered. King’s cousin Harold Muxlow testified in court that King stopped by his house and asked for a gas can, a flashlight and a shovel.
Muxlow said he heard a female voice in the car screaming for him to call the police but King told him “Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing”. Muxlow told his 17 year old daughter Sabrina Muxlow what happened and she decided to call the police.
