* Two Salinas Men Kyle Turner, 20, And Jimmy Walker, 18, Arrested After Totaling Police Car During Chase

Two Salinas men were arrested Sunday night after they rammed the stolen car they were driving head-on into a Monterey County sheriff’s deputy car and fled the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.Kyle Lynn Turner, 20, and Jimmy Orville Walker, 18, of Salinas were arrested on multiple charges, including attempted homicide, after theyhit a patrol car and totaled it while a deputy still inside, the sheriff’  office said.At about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a burglary in progress in the Indian Springs area of Salinas off River Road, officials said. On their way to the scene, the deputies received a vehicle description.At about 10 p.m., the deputies saw a vehicle on Tara Drive that matched the description they had received, officials said. They turned on their siren and pulled the car over at the intersection of Tara Drive and Woodrose Place. One deputy got out of the patrol car while the others prepared to exit it, but the suspect sped toward the unit car, hit it head-on and damaged both cars severely, the sheriff’s office said.The suspect continued to accelerate, pushing the patrol car backwards while a deputy was still inside, officials said. The deputy outside the unit shot at the other car and hit it multiple times, but the suspects spun around and totaled the patrol car.The suspects drove away, but back-up units saw them turning onto River Road and pursued them, according to the sheriff’s office. The drivers reached speeds of 100 mph before turning off River Road and taking the eastbound ramp onto Highway 68. The suspects’ car then came to a stop because of the damage it had sustained.The driver got out and ran, and the vehicle rolled backwards into another patrol car. The passenger was taken into custody, and the driver was later caught in some thick brush, according to the sheriff’s office.The deputy involved in the head-on collision was treated for minor injuries and released from Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, and neither suspect was injured.Turner was allegedly driving the car and Walker was his passenger, according to the sheriff’s office.The two were booked in Monterey County Jail on charges of attempted homicide, auto theft, conspiracy, grand theft, possession of stolen property and vehicle code violations. The car they were driving turned out to be stolen, and evidence of other crimes was found inside, the sheriff’s office said.
