Santa Rosa police believe one of two vehicles involved in a fatal crash early Saturday morning ran a red light at the intersection of state Highway 12 and Fulton Road.The 12:30 a.m. crash killed 21-year-old Trystan Nash Shelly of Sebastopol. Shelly was driving a 1998 Suzuki motorcycle east on Highway 12 at Fulton Road when it collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe that was turning south onto North Wright Road from westbound Highway 12, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Rich Celli said. Shelly was wearing a helmet and the motorcycle caught fire during the collision, Celli said. Police want to interview an unidentified man at the scene who pulled Shelly away from the burning motorcycle, Celli said.The driver of the Tahoe, Luis Medina, 18, of Santa Rosa, and his four passengers were not injured, Celli said.Police are waiting for blood alcohol test results on Medina and Shelly, but Medina did not appear to be intoxicated at the scene, Shelly said.The traffic light at the intersection appeared to be functioning correctly, Celli said, adding it’s not clear which party ran the red light.A Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department deputy who made a traffic stop east of the intersection just before the crash came to Shelly’s aid,Celli said.
