Two men were arrested after a hit-and-run in Santa Cruz Friday night that left a 39-year-old man dead, according to Santa Cruz police. Shortly before 9:15 p.m. Friday, authorities responded to the 500 block of Ocean Street because of a reported hit-and-run involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle, police said.The pedestrian, a Santa Cruz resident, was apparently walking north on the west side of Ocean Street when he was struck by the vehicle, according to police. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police said. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.The driver of the vehicle, Reginald Wilcoxen, 42, of Watsonville, fled the scene after the crash, according to police. Officers searched for the vehicle, and when they found it, they saw Wilcoxen being driven from the area by his son, Jeremiah Wilcoxen, an 18-year-old from Richmond.Officers stopped the vehicle, and Reginald Wilcoxen fled from the car on foot but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.Investigators learned that he had been driving while under the influence of alcohol when the collision occurred. He was arrested for the fatal hit-and-run, felony DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter, and resisting arrested, police said.Jeremiah Wilcoxen was found to be under the influence of drugs. He was also driving without a license, and was deemed to be an accessory to the hit-and-run.
