* Police Identify 14 year old Ricardo Cortez Jr as Boy Shot and Killed in Oakland

A 14-year-old boy who was fatally shot Friday night in Oakland has been identified as Ricardo Cortez Jr., a police spokesman said today. Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 8:40 p.m. in the 1700 block of 47th Avenue and found Cortez suffering from gunshot wounds, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said. Cortez was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Thomason said. The shooting remains under investigation.
