* Sonoma Caregiver Humberto Carrizales Rodriguez Charged With Rape Of 88-Year-Old Women

A licensed health care worker has been charged with raping an 88-year-old woman Aug. 7 at a small health care facility for ambulatory residents in Santa Rosa.Humberto Carrizales Rodriguez, 50, also is charged with elder abuse. He is scheduled to enter pleas to the charges in Sonoma County Superior Court on Aug. 31.Rodriguez was working as a public health assistant with the Sonoma County Department of Health Services before his arrest, according to Rick Hall, personnel manager for the Department of Health Services.Hall said the allegations against Rodriguez do not involve his duties as a county employee and Rodriguez apparently had a second job as a health care worker.Rodriguez’s duties included communicating medical and appointment information for Spanish-speaking clients at the Department of Health Services Fifth Street office in Santa Rosa, Hall said.He was hired in March 1999 as a human services aide with the Sonoma County Department of Human Services and joined the Department of Health Services in December 2000, Hall said.Hall said Rodriguez is on unpaid absence from his county job without authorization. Deputy Public Defender Karen Silver also said Rodriguez was a county employee who worked elsewhere for the past several months as a caregiver. She said he has no prior record.Rodriguez is being held under $130,000 bail in the Sonoma County jail. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department has not disclosed where the alleged rape occurred. Lt. Chris Spallino said disclosing the location could lead to identification of the victim.
