Santa Rosa police have arrested a transient for the assault of woman who was found beaten near the Franklin Cemetery in Santa Rosa earlier this month. Jamel Lamar Scott, 26, whose last known address is Rohnert Park, was arrested Aug. 12 in the 600 block of Hoen Avenue in Santa Rosa for violating a restraining order regarding a woman who is not the alleged assault victim, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said. While Scott was in the Sonoma County jail, investigators gathered evidence indicating Scott is the suspect who assaulted the 18-year-old woman near the cemetery on Aug. 7, Banayat said. The woman suffered head and facial injuries but is no longer hospitalized, Banayat said. Scott had been with the victim earlier in the day of the assault, Banayat said. He was arrested for assault with serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to commit rape, assault, mayhem and
a probation violation, Banayat said. He is being held without bail and is to be arraigned in Sonoma County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon.
