* Santa Clara County Sheriff Vehicle Chase Ends In Crash And Suspect Brian Sneed Is Arrested

Deputies this morning arrested a suspected auto thief who led authorities on a car chase, crashed into a house and then hid in a garbage can to avoid arrest, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.Around 1:30 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy noticed a white four-door Honda pass by on northbound Winchester Avenue at Moorpark Avenue in San Jose.The deputy ran the car’s license plate and found that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.The deputy tried to pull the car over, but the driver accelerated and led the deputy through a commercial district of Santa Clara and into a residential neighborhood where he lost control and crashed into the bedroom of a house in the 3000 block of Mauricia Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.The driver fled after the crash, and the sheriff’s office and Santa Clara police set up a perimeter and to search for him. Two hours later, he was found in a nearby garbage can, according to the sheriff’s office.The driver was identified as Brian Sneed, 20, of San Jose. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries and was later booked into Santa Clara County Jail on felony charges of auto theft, evading arrest, and probation violation. Sneed is being held without bail.No one else was hurt in the crash.
