* East Palo Alto 12-Year-Old Boy Shot By Stray Bullet In The 1200 Block Of Camellia Drive

A 12-year-old boy was shot by a stray bullet while standing in front of his house in East Palo Alto on Monday evening, police said today. Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1200 block of Camellia Drive at about 5:15 p.m. and found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the ankle, East Palo Alto police Detective John Norden said.The boy was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released, Norden said.Authorities believe two vehicles were racing down Camellia Drive, and passengers in one car were shooting at the occupants of the other car.One of the bullets struck the boy, who was on the sidewalk in front of his home, Norden said.The vehicles were gone when police arrived. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Norden at (650) 853-3177.
