A 4-year-old boy killed in a suspected drunken-driving crash in Salinas Sunday night has been identified by the Monterey County coroner’s office as Sebastian Balch, according to the California Highway Patrol.The crash happened at about 9:10 p.m. on River Road, near Las Palmas Parkway in Salinas. Balch was riding in the back seat of a 1998 Honda sedan. The Honda was waiting to turn onto Las Palmas Parkway when a 2006 Dodge truck hit the back of the car, according to the CHP. Balch was secured in a car seat but was killed by the impact, according to the coroner’s office. The driver of the car, 40-year-old Christa Balch, and a 2-year-old who was also in the car were airlifted to Valley Medical Center in San Jose. CHP Officer Kari Dillon said all three occupants of the Honda are from Salinas but could not confirm the relationship between them.The driver of the pickup truck, Dion Gussner of San Luis Obispo, was not injured. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, Dillon said. Gussner was booked into the Monterey County jail. The CHP is still investigating the crash.
