* Solano Sheriff Gary Stanton Says He Will Run For Re-Election

Solano County Sheriff-Coroner Gary Stanton has announced he is running for re-election in the June 8, 2010, election. Candidates have until March 12 to file nominating papers. Stanton was appointed Sheriff-Coroner by the Solano County Board of Supervisors on May 11, 2001. He was elected to his first term on March 5, 2002 and was re-elected on Nov. 7, 2006. His term expires Dec. 31, 2010. He started as a deputy sheriff with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 1, 1972. The sheriff’s office has nearly 500 employees and an $81 million budget. The county sheriff also oversees the county’s two jails and manages the county’s Office of Emergency Services. Stanton is a life-long resident of Solano County and lives in Dixon with his wife of 31 years, Claudia.
