Salinas police arrested two alleged gang members who failed to yield to a traffic stop by a police officer and then threw a shotgun out the
window during a short pursuit through the city early Saturday morning. Gustavo Hernandez, 21, and Oscar Corona, 18, were arrested after
the incident, which began shortly after 1:05 a.m. when an officer attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of East Alisal and California streets, police said. The driver, Hernandez, failed to yield to the stop, and continued on by driving through several stop signs, accordng to police. The pursuit continued onto Lang Street where the officer saw the vehicle’s passenger throw a shotgun from the car. The gun went through the back window of a parked vehicle on the road, police said. Investigators later found that the shotgun was loaded. The pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle spun out on Lang Street near Capitol Street, according to police. Hernandez and his passenger, Corona, were taken into custody without incident. Both admitted to being Sureno gang members and were booked into Monterey County Jail, police said.
