Salinas police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night, the city’s 15th homicide of 2009. Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 500 block of San Benito Street at around 11 p.m. Arriving officers found the victim, 28-year-old Roy Ramirez, lying in the driveway of an apartment complex. He had been shot several times in the torso, police said. Paramedics attempted to revive Ramirez but he was declared dead at the scene. Investigators spoke with several witnesses and believe the shooting was gang-related, police said. Police have not released any information about possible suspects.
