* Petaluma Joel Joseph Silva Arrested After Pursuit In Stolen Vehicle

A 31-year-old Petaluma man was arrested after fleeing from police in a stolen pickup truck Saturday evening, according to Petaluma police.Joel Joseph Silva was arrested after a police officer attempted to stop a gray pickup truck for a traffic violation at about 5:10 p.m. on state Highway 116 near Frates Road, police said.Silva fled from the officer at a high rate of speed in the truck, which was discovered to have been stolen, according to police.The truck failed to yield to officers during a pursuit that covered about two miles, police said.As Silva traveled north on South McDowell Boulevard, he tried to make a U-turn near St. Francis Drive, but lost control of the vehicle, which traveled over the raised center divider and struck the concrete sidewalk, according to police.Silva fled the vehicle on food and ran west through the backyards of several homes. Officers quickly set up a perimeter around the area, and were assisted by a helicopter from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, as well as sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers.A Petaluma police K-9 unit also assisted in the investigation, and Silva was eventually found hiding in a home in the 1300 block of St. Anthony Lane, police said. Silva was booked in Sonoma County Jail for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, felony evading of a peace officer, resisting arrest and violation of parole, according to police.No bail was set due to the parole violation. Police said Silva was out on parole for vehicle theft.
