* Oakland Man Fatally Shot Bumps Oakland’s Homicides To 63

A man was fatally shot in Oakland this morning, a Police Department spokesman said.Officers responded to the 1000 block of 70th Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. to investigate several reports of gunshots and a man down in the street, Officer Jeff Thomason said. Officers located a male victim who was unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced him dead.Homicide investigators went to the area to investigate the shooting. No arrests have been made and the motive is unknown. There have been 63 homicides in Oakland in 2009, Thomason said.Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Oakland Police Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821.
