* San Quentin Death Row Inmate Michael Mattison Convicted of Murdering Two Little Girls Dies of Natural Causes

A man who had been on death row at San Quentin State Prison for more than 19 years died Friday, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced in a statement. Michael Mattison, 55, who was on death row for the kidnappings,rapes and murders of two girls, ages 9 and 16, in Los Angeles County in 1978, died of natural causes at an unnamed hospital facility, according to the CDCR. Edwards was imprisoned at San Quentin on April 14, 1980, four days after he was sentenced to death, the CDCR reported.
