The Berkeley Police Department released sketches today of a suspect or suspects who broke into two separate homes Thursday morning and sexually assaulted a girl and woman who were sleeping in their own beds.The first sexual assault occurred at about 2:30 a.m. at a home in the 2100 block of Cedar Street, according to police.A teenage girl told police she woke up with a man straddling her and lifting her shirt. The victim’s mother was asleep in the same bed, and she reported waking up and fighting the suspect until he fled, police said.Officers responded to a second sexual assault reported at about 7:25 a.m. in the 2600 block of Hillegas Avenue. A college-aged woman told police she woke up with a man on top of her. She fought off the attacker until he fled, according to police.Officer Andrew Frankel said that police could not confirm that the same suspect was responsible for both assaults.The suspect in the first assault was described as a mixed race male who is between 16 and 20 years old, is between 5 feet 7 inches and 6 feet tall, has a thin build, and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.The suspect in the second assault was described as a black male who is between 19 and 22 years old, is between 5 feet 7 inches and 6 feet tall, has a thin build, and was wearing a gray sweatshirt.
