A 20-year-old man who was fatally shot last week outside of a SanJose shopping center has been identified as Nam Hoang Mai, police said today. Police are not releasing exactly when the San Jose man died. Mai was one of three men apparently shot after a fight broke out in a restaurant in a shopping center in the 300 block of North Capitol Avenue on July 9. The men left the restaurant, Officer Jose Garcia said, and gunshots were fired in a nearby parking lot. By the time police arrived around 12:35 a.m., the men involved had already left.Within the next 20 minutes, three gunshot victims arrived at two separate hospital emergency rooms. A police investigation linked the three to the shooting on North Capitol Avenue. In addition to Mai, two other San Jose men, ages 21 and 28, were treated for injuries that were not considered to be life threatening.Police are still investigating the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Detective Sgt. Dave Tindall or Detective John Barg of the Police Department’s homicide unit at (408) 277-5283.
