* San Jose Police Investigating Shooting Murder at Monte Alban Apartments in the 1300 block of Santee Drive

A San Jose man was shot and killed Wednesday night in the city’s 17th homicide of the year, a police sergeant said this morning. Officers responded to reports of shots fired near the basketball courts at the Monte Alban Apartments in the 1300 block of Santee Drive at about 9:45 p.m., San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.
As officers were beginning an investigation at the apartment complex, a call from a local hospital at 9:55 p.m. alerted police that a 36-year-old man had walked into the hospital with gunshot wounds. The man later died of his injuries, Lopez said. Police believe the victim was shot at the Monte Alban Apartments, though as of this morning they had not yet confirmed that, Lopez said.
A motive for the homicide has not been determined, Lopez said, and investigators are looking into the possibility the shooting was gang-related.
