Santa Cruz police are searching for three men they believe were involved in a gang-related shooting late this morning that wounded a 23-year-old man.Police were called at 11:55 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Chestnut Street, where they found an “extensive trail of blood” leading into the victim’s apartment, police spokesman Zach Friend said. The victim and his 19-year-old friend told police three men had chased them through the complex, firing at them.”At least two shots were fired at the two victims, but one was hit twice,” Friend said. The 19-year-old man was not harmed. The 23-year-old was hit in the arm and leg, and was transported to a hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition, Friend said.Friend said police are investigating a heated exchange that allegedly occurred between the two victims and at least one person in a white pickup truck about an hour before the shooting. It’s not yet clear whether the argument was related to the shooting, Friend said. The three suspects were last seen running toward West Cliff Drive, he said. Police believe the shooting was gang-related, based on interviews
with witnesses.
